2012 Prize Giving

Last night we had our school prize giving. As we finished school I went home and got ready for prize giving that started at 6:30. As I arrived I looked if any of my friends were there and I saw Lorenzo. When it was 6:30 we lined up in our year group and walked in the hall. As we came into the hall I saw lots of parents and people sitting down. When we sat down Osana and Tui said a prayer. Once the prayer was finished we all sang the National Anthem. The first awards were for the year 5’s. After the year 5’s prize giving was finished it was time for their item.  There item was awesome and different to our’s.

In the middle it was getting hot and stuffy. The second team to go up was the year 6’s. There were lots of sports and other awards that were awarded. Finally it was finished and the item was starting. It was cool and creative I think they had the best item so far. After the item finished it was the year 7’s turn. When the year 7’s went on we cheered them on as they got their prize.
When they went off the stage Mr Burt said it was time for the year 7 item so we got up and made our way to the stage. The girls were on first so the boys had to stay in the wings. When the girls finished it was our turn to go up I was nervous and I had butterflies in my stomach.

When we finished our dance the girls came back on and we did a group dance together that we had practised. Finally our dance finished and it was time for the year 8’s . The year 8’s got the most awards for prize giving. Finally Mr Burt handed out the last awards and it was time for the year 8’s item. There first song was a christmas carol it was cool and different from everyone else’s items.  As the year 8’s finished we turned to the parents and we sang our school song (We will Strive to Succeed).

Future Career

My Future career is to be a NRL player because I watch it a lot on TV. NRL is a sport that is played all around New Zealand and Australia.The sport contains tackling running and foot work. My favourite team I want to play for is the North Queensland Cowboys because they are sometimes in the top 4 on the NRL ladder. My favourite player is Matthew Bowen because hes fast and a good tackler. My Best position I want to play is Fullback because every relies on you to save the tries. My favourite state of origin team that I would want to play for is New South Wales (N.S.W).

Netbook Reflection 2012

I think this year with netbooks was better than last year because it was exciting to work with them and learn from them. I think the year went awesome using netbooks because it was a lot easier to use netbooks instead of using pen and paper. The internet connection was a bit slower than last year because the wireless was a bit laggy and was playing up i had to keep turning my netbook off and on until it connects.

My netbook has been way better learning for me because i can search for things on the internet and do online work.It is way faster and also way better.

Film Festival

“WOW” last week a cluster of schools went to the Manaiakalani Film Festival to watch awesome talented movies from others schools. The schools that were there was St Pius X, G.I Primary, Glenbrae, Tamaki College, Tamaki Intermediate and Tamaki Primary.

As we got into the bus we travelled down to Sylvia Park hoyts. As we arrived we went up to the extreme screen theater to watch the film festival. As we got there they opened the Manaiakalani film festival. The very first film that was showed was one direction created by Pt England and Tamaki College. It was funny and also creative.  

My best film was azonto created by tamaki college. It was awesome and creative. I like the part
when they travelled around dancing in public it was cool.

School Athletics

On Thursday it was Athletics day. I was at home because I had hurt my leg. I heard that it was exciting and exhausting. There are four house colours Tainui, Te Arawa, Takitimu, Matatua. I'm in Matatua (green). I was meant to be competing with the 12 year old boys. It sounded like it was fun and competitive.

My challenging events are sprints and high jump. High jump is the best event for me because its challenging and difficult. Every time you fail you get eliminated, but every time you accomplish it they put it up another level. My other best event in our school athletics is relay. Four house groups competing against each other I heard that Te Arawa came first.

The nervous part about athletics is the finals. Everybody cheering their house colour on waiting for the clap to be called. Once the clap calls it gives me a fright and tingles in my body. I heard that it was challenging and hard for the year 7’s to compete with some of the year 8’s.

It was kinda boring sitting out athletics because it sounded like everyone had fun.I wish I didn’t break my leg because i could have competed in our school athletics. My Best part is Relays because we get to challenge against the parents and teachers.

What if I could go back in time

If I went back in time I would want to see all my family that died way before I got born. I would want to spend time with them before they passed away. I would want to warn people bad things would happen. I would want to see all the stuff that happened before humans were born. I would want to warn the people that died when the twin towers fell. I would take me back when I did all the bad stuff to my teacher and friends. I would want to travel back in time like a time traveller.

What if I had Superpowers

If I had superpowers I would save the world from crime and robbers. I would help people that are in trouble and rescue them from danger. I would be just like Superman keeping crime from out of this world and stop the bad people from stealing and murdering. I would let all police have a break why I do all the work. My super powers I want is to be able to fly like a jet plane, invisibility, ultrafast like Flash, and be strong as the Hulk. My powers are used when stopping crime and helping people out with things. I’ll save the community and heal sick people from dying.

Cross Country

I have been running really well in the cross country for years. But this years one was much harder. On a sunny Friday afternoon we had our annual school Cross Country.

Standing in line with my mates I stood nervously at the start line waiting for the race to begin. I heard that it was a 3km run. “BOOM” the clappers went.  As quickly as possible everybody burst off at the start line leaving me behind. One of my mates were ahead of me but I kept my pace and caught him around the corner.

As I reached the reserve we entered a puddle of muddiness. My shoes were covered with gooey mud and damp water and it was slowing me down. I was trying to keep up in the front but the 11yrs and 12yrs kept coming in my way. My legs started giving up as I entered the bush walk. Tired with heavy shoes I tried to keep my pace but I kept slowing down.

Before I knew it I was already half way through the bush. I could see the front of the pack across from me. I tried to catch them but they were nowhere to be seen. As I came back to the reserve I saw Samuela leading the pack and I knew I was taking 4th place. When I came back to school I passed the park and saw everybody cheering us on. I saw the finish line and ran towards it. “4th place “Ms Va’afusuaga said. After that we took a picture of Samuela, Starford, Matthew T and I.

Finally it was over. I walked and washed my shoes by the taps. My highlight was trying to catch the front pack but I kept slowing down. I felt exhausted and hot when I finished. I can’t wait for next year.

Usain Bolt

The Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt having his speed and agility to beat other athletes.Usain Bolt striking the finish line in 1st place at a fast time representing Jamaica. His fast pace lead his country in the lead and made them look proud as he crossed the line in green, yellow and black. The lightning Bolt also came and defended his title breaking a new world record at relay 36.84 seconds. Also with his Jamaican partner Yohan Blake finishing in second place.

Usain Bolt the unbeatable champion defending his wins and striking a pose to his fans. He has broken lots of world records in his life. The fastest time was 9.63 in the 100m sprints. He is a Jamaican athlete that competes in track and field he participates with his equal partner Yohan Blake another sprinting athlete.

As Usain Bolt crosses the 100 m line the crowd cheers him on yelling his name and celebrating his win. He is the fastest man in the world.

Champion

1.She was full of excitement when she won a gold medal.
2.She achieved her goal by coming in first place.
3.The Asian athlete made her family and country proud as she stood on the podium in first place.
4.She was happy with joy celebrating her win in the London Olympics.
5.The Asian lady was stoked and excited as she represented her country.

Victory

1.Their facial expressions show that they’re really happy and excited.
2.The crowd spontaneously cheered for the players in celebration.
3.Before the goal was scored they were nervios and weren’t expecting to win.
4.The players were outrageously wild when they became champions.
5.They were proud of achieving their goal of winning.

Wrestling

It looks like he has put the man into an armlock and made him almost tap out.

His facial expression looks like he is struggling with pain.

The man has the other opponent into a perfect position to make him tap.

Their veins are pumping and they have tight grip around each other.

The facial expressions from both opponents look like they're tired and weak. This is a wrestling move called the anaconda. They use it to make the other opponent tap out.
Their hearts are pumping with tiredness and they look like they both  want to give up.

Archery

1.What a moment of concentration he is focused on the arrow whether it's going to hit the target or not. You have to have skills and steady aiming.

2.He is focused on his target and looks a bit  nervous in case he misses. It will be a possible shot to get he will have to be still and calm well as focused.

3.As he got ready to shoot his target there was a funny look in his eye s because he was unsure if he gets it.

London Olympics

This year in 2012 the 30th Olympics is being held in London. The Olympics are all about athletes around the world coming together to compete against each other. The USA has won the most medals in the Olympics. This year it’s going to be the third time London has held the Olympics.The fastest man Usain Bolt is coming back to defend his title and world record. He is competing in the track and field.

Gold medalist Michael Phelps (USA swimmer) has earned the most medals in the Olympics. He won 8 gold medals in Beijing. He is a fast swimmer to compete against and is a world record breaker.

There are lots of beautiful venues that are holding the events in  the London Olympics. The venues  are holding different sports like track and field, gymnastic and others. There are lots of people around the world coming together to watch the London Olympics.

My Favorite athlete is Usain Bolt because he is super fit and fast. He broke the all time world record of 9.4 seconds in the 100m. He is a Jamaican runner and his sport in the Olympics that he is competing in is track and field.

I feel glad that the Olympics are on because I can watch Usain Bolt come first on my TV.

My Special Place

My special place is the rugby field because I like being there. The rugby field is my special place because I practice my rugby skills and play with my mates. When I have finished my schoolwork I wait for the bell to ring. As soon as it rings I sprint over with my friends and we play a game of touch. The rugby field is also a special place to be because that’s where I have some of my rugby games there.

Term 2 Reflection

Term 2 has been one of the coolest  term this year.Our topic we have been learning Art Alive. We have studied about famous painters from a century ago. My painter I picked was Vincent Van Gogh.He uses colour to express his feeling and what mood taken place.

This term we done lots of things like painting got to do Kiwi Kick and PEPA.
The other thing about this term we did was we got to learn lots of information about painters and their style.

The other things we did this term is that we got to do our special place.My special place I did was the rugby field because thats where I practise my skills and play touch with my friends.
We had to sketch a painting of our special place then we had to paint it or use crayons.

My Special Place

My special place is the rugby field that's were I practise my skills and play with my mates.
I like my special place because that's the only place I get to chill with my mates and class.

Thor

It looks like Thor has just smashed  through a lightning pole, because his hands and the hammer has lightning coming off them.  It looks like he is angry at one of his arch enemies. Thor is a Marvel Avengers character. His power is lightning as well as his hammer.This hammer is a strong weapon that he uses when he fights against other villains. He is a God and he is one of the strongest Marvel Avengers in the house of Odin.

Thor is bulky with blonde hair. He is a brave superhero that fights crime.
He is brave as well as powerful and his hammer is his weapon he uses.Thor is the only Marvel
Avenger that can lift his hammer up.

Thor‘s arch enemies are his brother Loki and the ice people.The ice people live in Udine.The ice people have a big gang. Thor tried to attack the ice people but then his dad had to save him and then he got sent to the real world to be a man and to prove himself  that he is a real hero. Thor is real wise.

Thor’s team they are called the Avengers they are the ones that fight crime. The Avengers are one of the strongest teams around the world. They stop villains and fight crime and they are determined to fight anything that comes in their way.Thor’s team mates are called Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Hawkeye and the other two we don’t know.

Taonga Time

Every fridays 7 & 8 students go to different classes and do lots of activities.
We call it Taonga time. My class I’m in is Miss Vaafusuaga. The class I’m in is a sports class we learn lots of things about famous sports people and we go out and play lots of sports. I enjoy going to Taonga time because we do fun activities than in class.

The best thing about going to Taonga time, is that we get to study lots of new things and lots of new subjects. Last week we were suppose to  do a beep test but we didn’t,  I really wasn’t looking forward to doing the beep test . So then we got to play with some sports equipment and play touch.

The task we have been set on is that we are doing a profile about are famous sportsperson. My partner is james our famous people that we are learning about is Matthew Bowen(Me) & Derek Rose (James). Matthew Bowen is a professional australian rugby league footballer. Derek Rose is a professional basketball player that
plays for the chicago bulls,he is #1.

The other project we have been asked is that we have to make a profile about ourselves.We have to include out height weight well as D.O.B.

AFL

This term room 21 has been learning lots of new skills from the game of AFL.
Our Instructors names were Sandwhich.AFL is a New Zealand and a Australian game.The first skills we learned was the hand pass as well as drop punt.To warm up we had a game of octupus.

As we learned the skills we got into partners.My partners name was Waata.The aim was trying to hand pass the ball to your partner and drop punt it too.Then we had to try and hand pass then ball between our partners legs.

As we finished warming up we had another game we had to try and target Miss Lagitupu as well as the netball hoop.I was in the snails team my partner was a lion.
The team that won after all was lions.

Then we ended the session with another game.I like AFL because it seems cool and tiring.I also want to learn more skills and learn more techniques.

Picasso and Daniella Hulme comparing and contrasting

This week we have been comparing and contrasting two famous and unique artists Pablo Picasso and Daniella Hulme.These two famous artists both have different styles. Picasso is famous for Cubism. He is an artist that paints different perspectives and different angles of people's faces. Daniella Hulme is a contemporary artist who likes to use bright colours and likes to use tropical patterns in her paintings. The paintings we are comparing and contrasting today is ‘The Weeping Woman’ (Picasso) and ‘A Lazy Day In Paradise’ (Daniella Hulme.)

Pablo Picasso was a strange Spanish and Italian man who always liked to draw different perspectives of faces. ‘The Weeping Woman’ to me looked a little bit strange because there was a face looking sideways and forwards. It look like Picasso had a good time when he painted because he always made it look strange and funny at the same time.

Daniella Hulme is a European lady. She always made her paintings tropical because she is married to Samoan man. ‘A Lazy day in paradise’ looks like a lady is lying down and relaxing on a bed. Her style is Contemporary. She always likes to use lots of colourful patterns and always likes to use lots of tropical flowers.

I think Picasso and Daniella Hulme are different because they both painted different patterns and different portraits. The comparison between both painters is they both have different styles.

'La Musique' (Matisse) Sunflowers (Van Gogh)

P1:Room 21 has been set a task to study about the famous painters Henri Matisse and Vincent Van Gogh.The paintings we are focussing on is ‘La Musique’ by Matisse and
Sunflowers by Van Gogh.Their styles are Fauvism (Matisse) and Expressionism (Van Gogh).

P2:The first painting we studied about was ‘Sunflowers’ from Van Gogh.To me it looked like Van gogh lived a miserable life because the sunflowers looked dull.Some of his paintings described his mood and feelings.When I saw the sunflowers it had a colour yellow that always meant happy but in his paintings it look like it meant sad.

P3:Our second painting we learnt about is ‘La Musique’ from Matisse.Matisse looked like he was happy when he painted this picture because it look like there were two happy women having a great time.One of the ladies was playing a guitar while the other one was listening to her.In the Backround there were palm trees above them that made look like they were in the islands.

P4:I think Matisse and Van Gogh have the same compare because they both used plants in their paintings.The difference about Van Gogh's is that he used plants in his paintings and Matisse used humans.

Immersion Rotations

During the past week the senior block has been going to an immersion rotation in each classroom. We have been learning about different artists and their style.The first artist we learnt about was a Frenchman called Henri Matisse. Matisse drew lots of portraits of his wife. We had to create a picture in the style of Matisse. Our picture was of a lady holding a guitar. His style was Fauvism. Matisse was born in Le Cateau-Cambrésis,Nord,France 31 December 1869. He died on 3rd November 1954.

On Tuesday we went to room 22 to learn about Vincent Van Gogh. In room 22 we had to sketch a sunflower painting that was on this paper. His style of his painting was to make it come alive and make it beautiful. Vincent Van Gogh was born 30 March 1853 – 29 July 1890. His work included self portraits, landscapes, still lifes of flowers,wheat fields and sunflowers.

On Thursday we went to room 18 to learn about a strange man that uses different
perspectives to make a face from different angles of people faces a man named Picasso . Picasso always drew self portraits but once he discovered what will the face
look like if i drew it sideways and front so he did it. Before we drew our picture there was a clip that was on the screen and we copied it step by step. The picture was a strange face that was looking sideways and another face looking forwards.

On our second to last rotation we went to was room 19 to learn about Monet. Monet used lots of colours and made lots of interesting pictures out of it. My picture I drew was a Chicago Bulls logo but it didn’t turn out beautiful like hers. Monet was born on 14 November 1840 in paris.Her style was using lots of colours and and making look beautiful.

On our last rotation we went to Mrs Squires class to learn about Daniella Hulmes.
Daniella Hulmes always like to draw tropical pictures she liked drawing flowers and fruits the most.The picture we had to sketch was a bowl full of fruits. The hardest part was getting the right colours for the grapes. My best part was trying to make beautiful like Daniella Hulmes. My best rotation was going to room 19 to learn about the famaus
Claude Monet  because i got to draw and learn more things about Monet.
                                                   

Botany Skatepark

Last week me and Lorenzo went to Botany skatepark with his dad and sisters.
As we got to the skatepark there were a few people already there.That was my first time seeing it well as being there.The first thing I did was that I dropped into the empty swimming pool.The empty swimming pool was a steep pool that was empty so skaters and bikers could go down.


After playing in the pool I approached the half pipe.The half pipe was a big ramp that goes up and down the half pipe was so tall it looked scary to go down but still did it.
When I went down the half pipe lorenzo told me if I wanted to go to the shops down the road with him.So me and Lorenzo biked to the shops and got a drink.When we were coming back from the shops we had another turn on the skatepark before it was time to go home.

On our way home Lorenzo’s dad stopped outside Mcdonalds and we had a feed.
After eating me and Lorenzo got sundai from the counter.That was the best
day at the skatepark in my life I look forward to going there again.

Camp Concert

CAMP CONCERT !!!

Atmosphere is a complex word to describe what a place feels like. I was courageous when I had to perform on the stage on the night of the camp concert. On Concert night we had to perform a dance and had to use a jump jam song. My group was called Respect Squad and we picked ‘Poi E’. Poi E is a popular Maori song.

The item we performed was a dance from a New Zealand movie called ‘Boy’.
We had to keep in time and had to copy the moves off the movie. Our theme song
was traditionally made from a group of people.

At the end of the concert we came in 6th place. After our group performed it was
time for others to go on. Mr Barks handed out prizes for the best kayaker
skater and more other things.

I liked camp because we learnt lots of games and did lots of camp activities.

Dr.Ben Carson

On Tuesday Pt England students went on a bus to see Dr. Ben Carson at the Telstra Clear Events Centre. Dr. Ben Carson came from a poor family and he wasn't brainy in his class room. He had always been the dumbest until his mum told him to learn his timetables every night and read 2 books every week. At the end of the week he had to explain what the story was about.

After he told us about his childhood he told us what college he went to and what university he attended .Dr. Ben Carson attended Yale University for his undergraduate degree, the Medical School of the University of Michigan for his M.D. Eventually he became a doctor.

After Ben Carson told us what college he attended he said a speech THINK BIG!!!. Talent, Honest, Insight, Nice, Knowledge Books, In depth learning, and God. At the end everyone got a UP&GO drink and a apple to take.

As we got back to school I enjoyed learning about Dr.Ben Carson’s life
and how he managed to separate conjoined twins.

Potaua,Picnic

On a Magnificent hot day Pt England School went down to the re severe for a picnic.

As we headed down to the beach Mr Burt told us some safety rules were we can go and can’t go.After Mr Burt told us the safety rules we went and found our picnic area on the hill.As we found our picnic area I raced over to were the softball was.

While I was playing softball I bated the ball real far but Kingston’s dad caught it so I was out.When I was on second base James smacked the ball real far that he got us all home and we were safe.The empire was Mr Somerville he said that was a outstanding hit to James.The score was tight at 4 all but at the end we won.

When I finish playing Softball I had lunch.After having lunch I went over to the singing competition.The singing competition was by Mr Jay’s car.After a while we had to pack up and we started to walk back to school. When I arrived at school I was dieing of thirst so I sprinted right over to the fountain and drank allot of water.

At the end of the day I was Tied well as Exhausted .I can’t wait to go back
down to the Pt England re serve next year.

Netball

Guess what? Last week room 21 got to play netball on the hard courts with Liz. Netball is a hard sport because you have to have good shooting skills well as good passing. As we did netball with Liz she showed us how to pass the ball and how to hold the ball. Liz was our instructor (teacher). She taught us some techniques and drills.

The first drill we did was the chest pass. As we did the chest we played a little game. After the game we learnt how to bounce pass. The bounce pass is holding the ball and bouncing it to the next person.

As we played we got put into groups and played a little game of netball. We had to shoot the ball into the circle and if we did we got 1 point. The other lesson we did was intercepting. Intercepting is hard because you have got to have speed and good catching skills.

As we learnt how to intercept the ball we also played a game of ball tag. The aim of the game was trying to get the most people out and trying to intercept it. I had lots of fun and learnt lots of skills from netball. Liz taught me how to pass the ball as well as intercept. I hope we get to learn lots more skills.

Treaty of Waitangi

1)A long time ago, British people sailed the sea and found new land called Aotearoa. The people that lived there were Maori. During the 1840’s Maori and British had a disagreement over land. So a treaty was needed.

2)A treaty is an express agreement under international law that governments sign. A treaty is an official, express written agreement that states use to legally bind themselves.

3)Hone Wiremu Heke Pokai was a Māori rangatira (chief) and war leader in Northern New Zealand and a nephew of Hongi Hika.He was the leader of a Maori tribe.

4)The treaty was about the 3P’s. Protection, partnership, and participation. Protection means protecting yourself and protecting others. It also means protecting things you love. Partnership is co-operating with others like your friends and family. Partnership is also team-work. Team-work helps things go faster in life. Participation is participating in the things you like or dislike.

5)At Pt England School we learn about the 3 P’s.Protection,partnership and
participation.

Potaua My Holiday

P1: In the holidays me and my family went to the Panmure lagoon.As we got there we jumped out of the car and straight into the pool.When the hydro slide opened me and my cousin raced up the stairs and went down.While we were there we watched people have a bombing challenge in the bombing pool.

P2:After that we had lunch next to the hydro slide entrance.As we were having lunch I sprinted right over to the indoor pools because it got cold.When I was in the inside pools me and my brother were playing wrestling.

P3:When me and my brother were playing wrestling we played passes in the outside pools.While we were playing passes I watched my cousin do a bomb.As he did a bomb the life guard walked over and told him we ain't allowed to bomb here because there are to much people swimming


P4:As we were packing up to go home we were allowed to go on the Hydro slide 2 more times.At the end of the day it was cool and I really enjoyed my day out at the Panmure lagoon
